We now have complete casting for director Bill Condon’s re-imagined staging of Henry Krieger and Bill Russell’s Side Show, starring Erin Davie and Emily Padgett. Reprising their roles from the La Jolla Playhouse and Kennedy Center, will be Ryan Silverman (Cry-Baby) as Terry Connor, David St. Louis (Superstar) as Jake, Matthew Hydzik (West Side Story) as Buddy Foster and Robert Joy (Abe Lincoln in Illinois) as Sir. The musical will begin performances on October 28 at the St. James Theatre. Opening night is set for November 17.
The ensemble of side show characters will include Brandon Bieber as the 3 Legged Man, Matthew Patrick Davis as the Geek, Charity Angel Dawson as the Fortune Teller, Lauren Elder as the Venus di Milo, Javier Ignacio as the Dog Boy, Jordanna James as the World’s Tiniest Woman, Kelvin Moon Loh as the Half-Man Half-Woman, Barrett Martin as the Human Pin Cushion, Don Richard as the Reptile Man, Blair Ross as the Bearded Lady, Hannah Shankman as the Tattoo Girl, Josh Walker as the World’s Tiniest Man, with Con O’Shea-Creal, Derek Hanson and DeLaney Westfall.
Based on the true story of conjoined twins Violet and Daisy Hilton, Side Show is a moving portrait of two women joined at the hip whose extraordinary bondage brings them fame during the Depression era, but denies them love. The tuner features songs such as “I Will Never Leave You” and “Who Will Love Me As I Am?”
The original Broadway production, directed by Robert Longbottom, opened at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on September 19, 1997. The show closed after 91 performances and received four Tony nominations, including a shared nomination for co-stars Alice Ripley and Emily Skinner. This marked the only time in Tony history where two people were co-nominated for the Best Actress award.
